Bobcats battle Broncos to a scoreless draw

SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 18 Texas State battles to a draw for the second time this season with a score of 0-0 to Santa Clara.

Caitlyn Draper shines for the Bobcats with 8 saves and earning her second clean sheet of the season. Also grabbing career save 150th in the game.

An even match through the first half with Texas State and Santa Clara having 5 shots a piece with 4 shots on goal for each team as well. In the second half the script flipped, with the Bobcats not getting a single shot attempt and Santa Clara having 7 shot attempts in the second half.

Bobcat head coach Steve Holeman spoke about the second half.

“We had some really good possessions going into halftime, and they probably led in the second half a bit more. That’s what good teams do. We tried to tweak our system a little bit and we solved a bit of their dangerous chances. It’s tough to break down an organized defense, and that’s about as organized as it gets”.

This was only Santa Clara’s 2nd game outside the coast. Their first game was at UTSA on Thursday following a 1-0 win over the Roadrunners. Tonight was also Hispanic Heritage night for the Bobcats as they showed love playing Hispanic music and having a karaoke contest during halftime.

Texas State goes into Pac-12 play and international break with 11 days off until their first conference game.

“This is something new, even for me as a coach. We’ll rest, recover, and then we’ll kind of have a little bit of fun, and then we’ll refocus and start to work and kind of adjust when we need to”. Said Holeman when asked about the break.

This draw moves Texas State’s record to 7-1-2 on the season. The Bobcats go to Logan, Utah to face fellow No. 18 Utah State on Oct. 1st at 7 p.m.
