SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Bobcats continued their offensive dominance through back-to-back weeks as they had another offensive explosion this weekend against Incarnate Word, showcasing the depth and talent on both sides of the field with their most complete game yet just before PAC-12 play, winning 63-10.

The Bobcats started right where they wanted to, going down and getting Beau Sparks a touchdown on the opening drive to get back in the endzone. The Cardinals would answer back with their own touchdown to make the game 7-7 early in the first quarter.

Torrance Burgess Jr. would get the ball and rip off a 71-yard run to set the Bobcats up to score early again in the first quarter. This would be the closest the score would get. After the next touchdown, the floodgates would open for the Bobcats’ scoring. Brad Jackson would get his first touchdown out of five of the day to Jordan Martin to put the Bobcats ahead 14-7.

The Bobcats wouldn’t look back and continued to roll their way past the Cardinals, with the defense stepping up in big moments on a fourth-down stop to get the Bobcats the ball back on a short field, setting up another touchdown and Brad’s second touchdown of the day to Davion Jackson.

The new emerging star, Burgess, would rip off a 46-yard touchdown to put the Bobcats up 28-7 in the first quarter.

The Bobcats still kept the onslaught through the second quarter, getting Brad Jackson his fourth and fifth touchdown of the day, making this his career-high five passing touchdowns in one football game. One went to Chris Dawn Jr. and the other went to Zachariah Sample. The Cardinals would try to chip back, but the Bobcats’ defense was just too much for them to get past. The Bobcats’ defense picked up two interceptions and held the Cardinals to 10 points, the lowest margin of points given up so far in the first four games for the Bobcats.

As the game continued, Coach GJ Kinne let everyone get involved, with some of the backups getting in and making their own statement. Former four-star recruit and the highest recruit in Texas State’s history, La’Keyleon Gravers, getting his first touchdown, the bobcats would score two more times, with their last touchdown being a 77-yard punt return from Dameon Crowe.

After the game, we caught up with the head coach GJ Kinne and the starting quarterback, Brad Jackson, detailing how they just see the ball and how things are getting open for them. They both were positive about the win and said “We’re still working on improving, but it was the most complete game they’ve had so far.”

Both are excited to head into PAC-12, but Brad Jackson even said that “I’m focused on the upcoming games and everyone starts 0-0 heading into conference play.” If the team wants to have success, they have to bring this momentum into conference play, and it all starts next week.

The Bobcats will look to continue their momentum as they head into San Diego to play the Aztecs in Snapdragon Stadium next week for their first-ever PAC-12 game in football at 9:30 October 3rd.
