SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 22 Texas State Bobcats drop their second game in a row with a close 1-0 loss to the San Diego State Aztecs.
Caitlyn Draper had a dominant performance at goalkeeper, setting a new personal best with 14 saves, while conceding only one goal in the 76th minute.
“It’s frustrating because you make that many saves and we still unfortunately come away with a loss,” Draper said. “I feel like we gave it everything we could, but it’s definitely not how I want to have my record-save game.”
Texas State was dominated by San Diego’s offense throughout the game, allowing them to rack up a total of 19 shots on goal. Texas State’s offense was smothered in the first half but appeared to turn it around late in the second. Still, they ended with 9 shots, and only 3 of them were on target.

Texas State head coach Steve Holeman spoke about their back-to-back losses.
“It’s a tough loss. I mean this is a tough weekend; we open up with two of the top teams, Utah State is very difficult to play, and then we come home, and we face a very good San Diego State team,” Holeman said. “Caitlyn Draper was phenomenal in goal for the second time in a row, but we can’t count her to win us games; we have to have something in the attack.”
Sunday was also Southwest Texas Throwback Day, so many former Texas State women’s soccer players were recognized during halftime and stayed on the pitch after the game to sign autographs.

Texas State moves to 7-3-2 on the season. The Bobcats will have a 7-day break before they continue their in-conference play at Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon, on October 11th at 3 p.m.
