CIBOLO, Texas — The San Marcos Rattlers fell to the Cibolo Steele Knights 56-7 on Thursday night at Lehnhoff Stadium, struggling to slow down the Knights’ offense in the heated district matchup.
Steele wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, opening the game with a rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Tanner Mudge added another touchdown to extend the Knights’ advantage to 14-0.
San Marcos had a defensive highlight when Kaden Thorton intercepting a pass to give the Rattlers possession. However, the Knights continued to find success offensively, with Liam Jones breaking free for a 50-yard rushing touchdown to make it 21-0.
Jamin Harvell and DJ Green added touchdowns as Steele continued to pull away. The Knights entered halftime with a commanding 35-0 lead.
Steele picked up where it left off in the second half, with Marshall Kenner scoring a touchdown to extend the lead to 42-0.
The Rattlers eventually found the end zone when Ysreal Colton scored their first touchdown of the night, cutting the deficit to 49-7. However, the Knights answered with another touchdown from Dean Jeffords to secure the 56-7 victory.

Despite the loss, San Marcos head coach John Walsh remains optimistic as the Rattlers prepare for their next matchup against the Clemens Buffaloes.
“I think our defense is playoff ready, there’s four games we gotta go get ’em, the offense has got to put in the effort that the defense has given us. I really believe we got a team that can win this thing out and make the playoffs, it’s going to take a lot of team leadership, we got to get that first win against Clemens”
San Marcos will return home Friday, Oct. 16, to face Clemens at 7:30 p.m. Fans can catch the game on KTSW 89.9 FM.
