SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Bobcats volleyball team fell to the Oregon State Beavers (8-6; 3-2) in straight sets Wednesday night, losing 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-20) at Strahan Arena. The loss dropped the Bobcats to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in Pac-12 play as the team  continued to search for consistency late in the season.

Senior outside hitter Brooke Bentke led the Bobcats offensively with 15 kills, while sophomore Peyton McKee followed closely behind with 14. Despite the strong individual performances, Texas State struggled with attacking errors, recording 22 throughout the match compared to  Oregon State’s 10.

The Bobcats opened the match slowly, hitting just .057 in the first set as the Beavers took advantage of Texas State’s mistakes to win 25-18. Redshirt freshman Ashley Euston provided a spark from the service line, recording two aces in the opening set.

Texas State came out with more energy in the second set, scoring seven consecutive points before Oregon State recorded even its first point. However, the early momentum did not last. The  Bobcats committed nine attacking errors in the set, allowing the Beavers to battle back and take a  narrow 26-24 victory.

The third set remained competitive, with both teams trading points throughout the frame. McKee  recorded seven kills in the set, helping the Bobcats stay within reach. But the Beavers ultimately  pulled away to win 25-20 and complete the sweep.

The Bobcats also had bright spots defensively. Fifth-year defensive specialist Jasmine Purakal recorded 19 digs, surpassing 1,000 career digs in the process. Coach Huiet spoke about the milestone: “It’s a huge accomplishment, and it’s such a testament to how hard the kid works. It just sucks when you have to celebrate it when you get swept at home.”  Texas State finished with 34 digs and six service aces, outperforming Oregon State in both categories.

The loss marked another difficult result for the Bobcats after falling to Washington State earlier in the week. As conference play continues, Texas State will look to clean up its mistakes and  turn individual performances into more consistent team success.

The Bobcats will begin a three-match road trip on Saturday, Oct. 17, against San Diego State.  The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT in San Diego, California
