SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Boise State Broncos stormed into a rainy San Marcos Friday night to face the Texas State Bobcats on Senior night. It was a night for celebration, as the Bobcats as they celebrated nine members of their program.

Midfielder Victoria Meza, Forward Marivic Lek-Miro, Defender Nina Norshie, Midfielder Sanai Stewart, Forward Constance Agyemang, Defender Halle Garcia, Midfielder Kaylie Smith, Midfielder Annabelle Fisher, Team Manager Armin Memic

The first half of the match was a very contested match with Boise State owning a lot of the chances. The Broncos held most of the possession in the midfield and were able to outshoot the Bobcats 12-4 with Caitlyn Draper making a couple of huge saves. Draper would go on to have seven saves on the night, pushing her season total up to 93 saves.

The match was a very physical match. There were 22 combined fouls called during the game along with six yellow cards to boot, with multiple Bobcats being carded by the 13th minute. Sadie Guzman, Lilah Dupree, Kaylie Smith, and Annabelle Fisher all received cards for tackles predominantly on the wings.

Coming out of halftime, the Bobcats were able to dominate possession for the first 20 minutes in the second half while creating a couple chances that couldn’t be finished. Head Coach Steve Holeman was asked about struggles during conference play, he touched on Boise State and the strength of their team.

“They play a different style, and we hadn’t seen that all year. They’re very direct, they launched a lot of long balls, and it was effective. That’s why they’ve won games.”

Boise State was able to break the deadlock in the 67th minute from a long shot by Sophie Smautz that was rocketed into the back of the net over a diving Draper.

The Bobcats were able to keep things close for another 12 minutes, but the Broncos were able to quadruple their lead during the last 10 minutes of the game from a few chances inside the Bobcat box. The final three goals for the Broncos came from Madie Donovan, Campbell Wilson, and Asia Lawyer.

The Bobcats are currently sitting in 7th place in the PAC-12 standings with some help needed to make the conference tournament…but there still is a path for the Bobcats.

That path would require three things to happen. Gonzaga and Oregon State would have to tie, as they play each other in their final matchup of the season. Boise State would have to beat Washington State in their final match of the season. Lastly, the Bobcats would have to win their final game this Thursday against Fresno State. If all of those stars align, the Bobcats will be able to clinch their place in the PAC-12 conference tournament.

The Bobcats will next play Fresno State on the road this Thursday for their final matchup of the regular season. The game will kick off at 9 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Stadium.
