By Alexandra Cochran Blog Content Contributor My Radio Festival, aka MR Fest, is approaching at the end of this month on April 28 and 29, and I'm feeling all sorts of thrilled. If you've ever attended a music festival, you know there's a huge amount of good vibes and great chances to meet new people to share this experience with. This fest is unlike any other-- not only does it offer admittance for […]
By Branson Fairbrother Assistant Promotions Director KTSW Multimedia staff presents a new video series named Live in Studio C, which will showcase up and coming local bands. We invite artists to come perform a few of their songs followed by an interview conducted by our Other Side Drive hosts. The first band to kick off the series was local San Antonio band, Junkie; a surf punk, lofi band that has […]
By Andrew Nogay MR Fest Press Team 2016 was another great year for MR Fest, which covered numerous venues and various genres throughout the two days. There was everything from garage rock to rap to comedy, and memories to last at least a couple days. The Marc was where the two headliners, Night Beats and La Luz, played the last sets of MR Fest. Though the two bands hail from […]
By Sarah Stephens MR Fest Press Team Stonewall Warehouse is easily one of the most exciting bars along The Square. It shifts to life with spinning twin glittering disco balls housed atop the stage, boasts framed enlarged images of Ellen Degeneres and beloved Rocket Man Elton John and rotates an electric mix of music from its oversized speakers. This mix of music fills the entire nightclub and has you twirling […]
By Natalia Glenn MR Fest Press Team At the stroke of 5:00 pm, Valentino’s resonated with the mesmerizing scent of freshly baked bacon cheese pizza. It’s disturbingly hot. Everyone is sitting down waiting for the first MR Fest performer to come up and then we’re graced with the wildly conscious presence of Brandon Smith. Smith immediately turned up every internal volume the audience possessed. The first few songs he started […]
By Andrew Nogay MR Fest Press Team As part of MR Fest 2016, Superfly's Records opened its doors for music almost all of Saturday. From 1-9 p.m. there was live music from 11 fantastic bands. The lineup began with Fly Coco, then Sloe Your Roll, White Dog, Junkie, Corusco, Typical Girl, Muff, Tamaron, Dry Spell, Mantra Love and Comforter. The lineup was killer, and the venue was great. Superflys was […]
By Ezlyh Gutierrez MR Fest Press Team Dance, drinks and punk. What more can you ask for? Kiva Bar and Grill started their MR Fest concert off strong with A Tribute to the Sun. Not only were they poppin’, but they were let-your-hair-down-and-rock-till-you-drop poppin’. Imagine your favorite garage rock band collaborated with lead singer Juan “Witch Doctor” Magña’s hypnotizing vocals. Yes, perfection (and spunk) is exactly what you get. All […]
By Shannon Davies MR Fest Press Team Comedy at Vodka Street during MR Fest. I wasn’t really sure what to expect out of this. This is my first year at MR Fest and first time listening to a line-up of just comedians. I saw comedians of all shapes and sizes, literally. They all brought different jokes from their very strange and funny lives. The laughs started at 5:30 p.m. and […]
By Ryan Lacerda MR Fest Press Team At already-too-hot-1-o'clock, The Hecklers kicked off the lineup scheduled for one of our MR Fest venues, The Hitch, and their feel-good folky rock 'n' roll tunes turned up the energy and set the right atmosphere for chilling out and relaxing. It was just right for the people eating delicious food-trailers such as Greek food from St. Pita or Colombian food from El Sabor […]
