Jared Stautzenberger Assistant Music Director Starting this Friday up until October 11th, Austin City Limits music festival will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. In 2002, the iconic music festival broke out with mostly Indie/Americana artists and local musicians. Nickel Creek, Ryan Adams, and Bob Schneider were the big names at its debut, and H-E-B had its own sponsored stage. Over 24 years later, Austin City Limits operates in the […]
By Joaquin Lewis Music Journalist Like many, I first discovered Royel Otis through their breakout cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” on Triple J’s Like A Version this past January. Despite this cover becoming a staple on my playlists, I hesitated to dive deeper into their discography and become an invested fan. That all changed in April when I stumbled upon their cover of The Cranberries’ “Linger.” I […]
Joaquin Lewis Music Journalist Austin City Limits has been a key part of Austin’s identity as the "Live Music Capital of the World" since it began in 2002, featuring headlining acts such as Wilco, Gary Clark Jr., and the ever-present Asleep at the Wheel. Bringing in a crowd of 42,000—which was well above the expected 25,000—ACL has since grown to attract approximately 450,000 attendees over both weekends, with its growing […]
By Harriet Bernard Music Journalist Chappell Roan knocked it out of Zilker Park for her last stop of The Midwest Princess Tour at ACL Weekend 2. As we know from the previous weekend, Chappell’s first crowd was massive and the peak performance of the three days, so attendees could expect the exact same for last Sunday. Sure enough, fans camped at the American Express barricade from the second the […]
Evelyn Lopez Music Journalist This past weekend was the only Texas stop for the Big Ideas Tour. A fashionable diva in a graphic tee with a tie print and camo jongs (slang for long jean shorts) is one of my favorite sets from weekend two at ACL. This past summer, Remi Wolf released her second album, Big Ideas (2024). An alternative pop album full of catchy hooks, funky instrumentals, […]
By Ashlee Harcar Local Music Journalist Weekend One of Austin City Limits proved to be an awakening experience, and kicking off my first set with Mannequin P***y was just the beginning. As a die-hard fan of the band, seeing Mannequin P***y for the second time within a span of just four months felt like a lucid dream. My first encounter with the Philadelphia-based, punk-tinged alternative band was at Primavera Sound […]
Evelyn Lopez Music Journalist Weekend one of ACL has wrapped, and many are anticipating more that Weekend Two will bring. I have seen multiple Tweets and videos from this past weekend showing how big the crowds were. An aerial view over Chappell Roan's set showed Zilker Park at its fullest and almost unrecognizable. People have advised me to wear comfortable shoes, stay extremely hydrated, and protect my lungs from the […]
Jasmine Meshell Music Journalist Seven stories above the small town of San Marcos, just 30 minutes outside of Austin, The Wittliff Collections invited Austin City Limits legends, Scott Newton in conversation with Terry Lickona. The event, centered around Newton's story and the photos that tell it, launches the current major photography exhibit “Scott Newton: Beyond Limits”. The Exhibit celebrates innumerable historical music moments captured by the legendary photographer and ACL […]
By Grace Wartman Music Journalist This past weekend, I got to attend Austin City Limits at Zilker Park in Austin! With scary sights to get festival goers in the Halloween spirit, such as having to see Jared Leto in person and the black snot aftermath in my nose due to Zilker Park dust and whatnot, the festival was, as always, a mentally-healing, physically draining, excellent 32 hours of live music. […]
