The Texas Music Theater, originally a 1940’s movie theatre, is undoubtedly the showpiece jewel in the crown of venues offered by San Marcos.
Boasting world-class sound and an impressive stage, it is a popular choice for music fans to attend during the annual My Radio Festival, (MR Fest.)
Jamie Tidwell, Texas Music Theatre’s marketing and promotions head, helped explain why music lovers owe it to themselves to make it out to the theater.
“The obvious reason is our amazing sound system. You’re not gonna hear it anywhere better. We offer ‘True Sound,'” said Tidwell.
True Sound is a measurement that venues use to determine their sound quality. It is essentially an echo timer from the sounds onstage. Once the echo has subsided, the timer goes off and gives you a score based on the length.
What most venues shoot for is a seven as a standard.
Massive tubes on the ceilings and walls funnel the sound directly to the back. So, no matter where you are standing, you can hear the music with seemless quality.
“What we provide is what we call a listening room. We want you to come to (Texas Music Theater) and hear the music that you love the way it was supposed to be,” he said.
Another reason to make your way into this San Marcos music monolith is the fact that you do not have to endure Texas’ unpredictable weather.
“You can stay here all day no matter what the weather is-rainy, cold, or hot,” he said.
Festival goers can easily seek refuge from the elements at TMT, or just enjoy the mild climate inside all day without worry.
With a capacity to hold close to 1,000, a large standing area, two full service bars flanking the sides, a sound quality matched by none, and the largest stage in the city, music lovers are guaranteed a stellar experience.
