Temporary Services began with three individuals: Brett Bloom, Marc Fischer, and Salem Collo – Julin, in Chicago around 1998. These three artist are looking to collaborate with other groups and individuals around the globe to create art. Marc Fischer explains that after working alone, collaborating with not only Bloom and Collo – Julin, but other artist, is very enjoyable. This was Temporary Services first time at Texas State to exhibit their work. Fischer says that the three installations, Designated Drivers, Interactive Records, and a Booklet Cloud exert a sense of community that allows the audience to contend with the art.
“I think that if people spend some time with our publications in the show, and with Designated Drivers it becomes clear we’re not doing this work in isolation; but that we’ve tried to help create a kind of community with in which we operate.”
– Marc Fischer
Fischer says once the group started working together it wasn’t long before they decided to work on projects that included other artists. To view their work you can visit temporaryservices.org.
