Artist: Dog Bite Album Title: LA EP Label: Carpark Records Release date: September 17, 2013 Website: http://dogusbitus.tumblr.com/
Phil Jones, former keyboardist from Washed Out has branched out and created his new band: Dog Bite. Dog Bite is composed of members: Woody Shortridge, Stephen Luscre, William Fussell and Cameron Gardner who was also in Washed Out’s live band. Dog Bite released their latest EP, LA, this September and I have to say that this 4 track EP definitely does not disappoint.
The EP starts off with the track, “Warm Wake Up”, which presents a very relaxing and chill mood that stays through the rest of the EP. The repetitive guitar and beat mixes well with the voice of the woman who is introducing you to this “pleasant journey” that is the rest of the project. It definitely made me feel like I was entering a journey to listen to the rest of the EP which made the rest of the listening experience more enjoyable.
The second track, “Hunting Season”, follows very well after the introductory song as it maintains the same chill mood that Warm Wake up has. The melody in this track is faster but Jone’s soft sounding voice keeps it still sounding very mellow. Like the first track, this song also has very repetitive guitar riffs.
The third song, “Cold Weather”, has a smooth melodic tone and is my personal favorite. It’s the type of song that I picture playing in my dreams. It’s smooth and ambient and just pleasant to hear.
Finally, the EP wraps up with the short, “LA Sounds”. With no recognizable lyrics, it’s the perfect ending to the journey.
