    San Marcos National Night Out

October 1 was declared to be National Night Out. Neighborhoods from across San Marcos got together in a community party to enjoy food, drinks and music. The basis of the event is to stop crime in the community by being aware of who your neighbors are. Mayor Daniel Guerrero says that it is also a great opportunity to meet officials and ask questions about the progress of the city.

The sole purpose of the initiative is to get neighbors to come out of their homes, to spend some time with the people that live around them, to be able to interact with their neighbors but also for a lot of our first responders, law enforcement officers to be able to go out and say hello.

“[We] meet them at a time in which they’re not in need of emergency medical needs or law enforcement needs or firefighter needs. And it gives us a chance to be able to share information and get to know each other and just have a good time,” said Guerrero.

San Marcos police, Hays County Sheriff’s office, firefighters, emergency medical responders, and member of the city council went to different locations around town to greet the people they serve. The city hopes to arrange more events like these in order to better serve the community.
