The city of San Marcos is just a few months away from the long-awaited construction on Old Ranch Road 12.
San Marcos to add Bike Lanes
The Engineering and Capital Improvements Department of San Marcos is getting ready for their eight month long project on Old Ranch Road 12. The construction will improve not only the road but the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians on this heavily traveled roadway. The project will include water and wastewater lines, a new traffic signal at the intersection of Franklin Street and Old Ranch Road 12, a center turning lane for auto traffic, reconstruction of the road bed and most importantly new bike lanes and sidewalks. Alex Lincoln, part owner of The Hub Bicycle Lounge and San Marcos Bike rider, shares his opinion over the construction.
“I think its fantastic, I think it really opens up that whole stretch of roadway and it opens up cycling and commuting to a whole new demographic for the people of San Marcos”
– Alex Lincoln
The total distance for the construction is set to be 0.7 miles, starting at the intersection of Craddock and ending on Holland Street. The project is anticipated to begin in September 2014 and be completed by April 2015. The total estimated cost for the construction is $3.5 million dollars.
