Hays County to Improve Roads
March will mark the start of the major road improvement occurring in the San Marcos area. The roadwork will begin in March and will be conducted on both Hunter Road and on Ranch Road 12 in Hays County
March of 2014 begins Hays County road improvements. Hunter Road (FM 2439), will be receiving road improvements beginning on March 3, including the addition of a center turn lane and shoulders between Centerpoint and Posey roads. On March 10, Ranch Road 12 will also receive road improvements with the addition of a center turn lane and shoulders. Drivers are expected to have brief delays, but the roads will be open for traffic throughout the summer. Ranch Road 12 is being funded with the federal, TxDOT and County dollars and is expected to be finished by the end of the summer. Hunters Road is funded by Texas Department of Transportation Proposition 12 funds and is expected to be completed at the beginning of fall.
“We intend to keep one lane of traffic open at all times on both of these projects.”
– Jerry Borcherding.
The additions being made to both roadways is primarily to make roads safer for motorists.
“Both of these projects are referred to as safety improvement projects. Ranch Road 12 and Hunter Road both have a history of accidents that have encouraged us to make these changes.”
– Jerry Borcherding.
Jerry Borcherding, the Director of Transportation Hays County, says that removal of trees is needed in order to make these roads safer. However, Borcherding also states that preserving the natural environment will be a high priority throughout the time spent on these projects.
Borcherding says that Hays County residents should be expecting more road improvements in the near future, including a project on a County Road 266 bridge over the San Marcos river that should begin sometime this May.
