Last week The Gents dropped by the studio to play an acoustic set before heading to Triple Crown for KTSW Third Thursday!
The self described Austin “Thrash-Grass” group consists of three vocalists, Matty, Tyler and Kevin, as well as Martin on percussion. The vocalists each play other instruments as well, with Matty on rhythm guitar, Kevin on lead, and Tyler on the bass, they switch off depending on the song, but constantly back each other through thoughtful harmonization. They gave us an awesome sampler of their musical abilities with Matty singing lead on “My days,” Tyler on “Duke of Austin,” and Kevin on “Week 2.”
Emily and I had a great time hanging out with these gentlemen, each member being as likeable as the last, which certainly comes through in their fun and energetic performance. We talked about how they got started, old roommates, playing SXSW, The Gents EP, and what they have planned for the future. To top it all off, we unveiled The Gents’ deepest musical desires through a lightning round of questions!
Don’t miss The Gents when they come back to San Marcos for KTSW’s MR Fest, coming up on April 25th and 26th! For more information on music and show dates for The Gents, you can check them out at their bandcamp, or their facebook page.
