Texas State Holds Annual Relay for Life
Texas State held it’s annual Relay for Life event benefiting the American Cancer Society on April 11th.
This year, Texas State organizations participating in Relay for Life raised over $25,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The Relay for Life committee works toward their one event each year. Building up to that event, they help organizations raise funds and then gather for the 12-hour relay at the Student Recreation Center to honor loved ones affected by cancer. One member from each team walks around the track from 7 p.m.-7 a.m..
Relay for Life Committee Member Joseph Sikazwe says the committee’s year of work became worth it during the overnight event.
“It was just really cool to see and good to see all the hard work that you put in, in actual practice like people actually playing the games, listening to the stories, and everyone just having a great time. It really did make me feel like I’ve accomplished something here.”
– Joseph Sikazwe
Sikazwe says that even after he graduates from Texas State he hopes to stay involved with Relay for Life.
“It’s just.. it really is a great cause and just seeing how people can collectively get together and make it work is very impressive.”
– Joseph Sikazwe
Sikazwe hopes that more people will join Relay for Life and help to raise money for cancer research and awareness. He says that no donation is too small.
“It’s definitely a good cause. It’s something that’s really affecting a lot of people, and so if we could all come together collectively as Texas State students and as a whole, as a community, as an environment, I really think we could see more positive results in the near future.”
– Joseph Sikazwe
The annual Relay for Life event is usually held during April, and is open to anyone interested.
