Jack Valen played outside at Folk of July Fest early this month. The singer songwriter has been active since 2009. His contemplative folk and rock influenced music set the tone early for the night.
East Cameron Folkcore closed out the outdoor stage. Their music can be ruckus, political, and traveling across genres just as the gypsy punks they tend to channel. East Cameron Folkcore will be traveling next month while on tour in Europe. A performance can be viewed from KUTX and Good Music Club’s summer concert series at Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse.
Whiskey Sisters displayed their Texas country talent at the festival in early July. The group has been active making Texas style country classics since 2012. All members come from other all-star bands from the area. Teal Collins, of the Mother Truckers and and Barbara Nesbitt (Tim Flannery & the Lunatic Fringe) just may have hit on what the Texas country music scene is calling for- a strong female duo to take the lead.
