San Marcos’ Planning and Development Director Matthew Lewis has decided to leave his position, and move on to Austin as the head the City of Austin’s urban design and long-range planning efforts. Lewis decided to announce his resignation Tuesday during the City council meeting. Lewis ha been working in San Marcos since June 2009, and will sure be missed. San Marcos doesn’t have a candidate to replace him yet, but the recruitment process will be starting in the upcoming weeks.
This weekend Cool River Ranch will be hosting the Official Hill Country BBQ and Chili Cook Off State Championship. This event has been going on since 2007 and individuals are encouraged to combine with teams to compete in cooking challenges. All funds for the event will go towards educational scholarships and community projects for the local middle and high schools.
Today a New International Student Welcome Social will be going on to welcome international students to Texas State. This will be going on in the LBJ ballroom from 2 to 5 p.m. and light refreshments, international games and special performances will be available.
The San Marcos Pride festivities kicked off today. Tomorrow morning the Pride Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at the Dunbar Center and will continue to the Courthouse Square where there will be booths and food vendors. The VFW Hall Drag Show will begin tomorrow night at 8 p.m. with more dancing and DJs. Sunday morning at 11 a.m. the San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will host a service at the Rio Vista Pavilion where there will be same-sex marriage ceremonies performed starting at 1 p.m.
