Changes to transportation and parking services were the main topic of discussion at the regular Student Government senate meeting this month.
New bus times have already been added. Monday-Thursday’s new bus schedule will begin at 6:20 a.m. and end at 10:20 p.m.
Transportation Services also purchased new buses, hired new bus drivers and have a new app to make the bus ride a little easier. Some buses like Mill Street are still dealing with overcrowding though.
Transportation Services Representative Nancy Nusbaum says they are trying to solve this problem.
“We have been looking at Mill Street as one of our heavily populated buses and have five buses and are looking to possibly add a sixth,” Nusbaum said.
However, there is still the issue of parking at Texas State. With the building of new dorms and the closing of Speck Garage parking has been scarce. Many students like Lauren Morgan say they compare parking lots to a rat race.
“You literally have to fight for a parking space,” Morgan said.
Transportation services has confirmed they can’t afford to build another parking garage, but they have different solutions for the problem.
There is now construction for a lighted path from Falls and Sayers halls to the parking garage on Academy Street. This will encourage students to use that parking garage.
There is also the possibility of making Speck Garage into commuter parking or for purple parking passes only.
The gold parking pass will also be raised to $265Â for the Fall 2015 school year. The gold price will go up because of the shuttle and security services offered with the parking pass.
Until the problem is solved, Nusbaum encourages students to use the Bobcat Stadium, Mill Street and Edward Gary lots.
