This year brought us the much anticipated first annual Float Fest. Featuring acts like Henry + The Invisibles, Portugal. The Man, Grouplove, and many more it was inevitably a success. The crowd was packed with eager, sunburnt fans jamming out to the sweet sounds of their favorite indie groups.
Henry Roland kicked off the Do512 stage with a bang, performing some of his newest tracks and his classics like “Love Jamm.” His performance was equally as electrifying, if not more so, when he took the stage at MR Fest 2013.
Wild Child brought with them a groovy collection of eclectic sounds on the Grande Communications stage. Alexander Beggins and Kelsey Wilson commanded our attention with their vocals and unique instrumental talents. The group was excited to promote their new single, The Runaround, and fans could not stand still. More great things expected to come from these guys soon as they begin their European tour next month.
Of course, we can’t forget the performance by Portugal. The Man on the Grande Communications stage shortly after. Front men, John Baldwin Gourley and Zachary Scott Carothers, captivated us from the second they strung their first notes. Fan favorites, like the tracks “Hip Hop Kids,” and “So American,” were followed by impressive remixes of classics, including Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2.”
The most ground breaking performance for many of us was Groulove’s closing set. As many of the attendees were finally done floating and more people had arrived, the stage was packed with fans. The energy was almost tangible as favorites like “Tongue Tied” and “Ways to Go” vibrated throughout the park. Float Fest could not have asked for a better headliner.
Needless to say, fans will be eagerly awaiting the return of next year’s Float Fest.
