The suspect in the Gotta Habit shooting that occurred Sunday night was arrested by San Marcos Police today. Steven Carlos Hernandez is being charged with aggravated robbery. Store surveillance shows Hernandez walking into the store with his gun drawn at employee Patrick William Reily. Reily then tried to wrestle the gun away but was then shot during his efforts. Reily has been in the University Medical Center Breckenridge since the incident and remains in critical condition.
Around 2:30 a.m. yesterday a man with a passenger on a Harley Davidson motorcycle was driving westbound on west MLK Drive and struck a stone wall when he failed to make a turn. Both the driver and passenger were injured from the crash and taken to the University Medical Center Breckenridge. The incident is still under investigation.
Next Tuesday the Texas Department of Transportation will be hosting two open houses to discuss improvements to the 23.7-mile segment of Interstate 35 going from SH45 South-East to Posey road. The department will try to find ways to improve mobility, transit reliability, emergency response times and safety within the I-35 corridor.
University Federal Credit Union has given Texas State University $625,000 to help with student scholarships and programs on campus. The union will give the university an additional $25,000 in annual installments over the next five years. 40% of this will be going towards scholarships and 60% will support the student and alumni programs.
