Award-winning author Joe R. Lansdale (“Bubba Ho-tep”) discussed his relationship with his native East Texas and how this oftentimes misunderstood region has affected his life and work (of nearly 50 novels and counting) during an event earlier this month at Texas State’s Wittliff Collections, which houses his archive.
Lansdale’s latest novel to be adopted into a movie, “Cold in July,” stars Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”) and fellow Wittliff donor Sam Shepard, among others. Lansdale’s daughter, singer-songwriter Kasey Lansdale, has two songs featured in the movie.
Former journalist and fellow native East Texan Wes Ferguson joined Lansdale to discuss his debut book “Running the River: Secrets of the Sabine.”
Kasey Lansdale, also joined in on the fun and performed a song inspired by her dad’s murder/mystery novel “Edge of Dark Water” of the same title off her new album “Restless.”
