San Marcos Welcomes New Director of Planning and Development Services

Shannon Mattingly completed her first week of duties as the new Director of Planning and Development services for the City of San Marcos.
The City of San Marcos selected Shannon Mattingly for Director of Planning and Development Services. Mattingly was recently Director of Planning and Community Development for New Braunfels, a position she held for nearly 7 years.
The close proximity of San Marcos and New Braunfels means Mattingly is already familiar with our city and some of the developers. However, Mattingly says Texas State University creates one of the differences between the cities.
“There we were working so much more with addressing concerns for the residents versus short term rentals and tourist season. Here it’s similar issues but it’s more focused around the university and encroachment of students into neighborhoods.”
Mattingly’s responsibilities include overseeing planning, building and development services, as well as working with the Main Street program.
Mattingly began her duties January 15, and says she’s eager to build relationships with the stakeholders in our community.
