For Spring Break, I went to Costa Rica to help rebuild an animal sanctuary that has been relocated to Turrucares. We painted dorms for volunteers, made popsicles for the howler monkeys and the kinkajous, as well as cared for sick sloths to be rehabilitated back into the wild.I brought Otis (the MR Fest mascot) along with me.

Otis really liked to hang out with the howler monkeys the best. We made popsicles out of bananas and fruit juice and fed them to the monkeys. One of the howler monkies, Feluco, was born premature and has a deviated septum and cannot be released back in to the wild, unfortunately.

Otis also really liked the Marmosets. Even though we could not handle the marmosets, Otis enjoyed feeding them bananas through the cage and watching them play.
Overall, it was a very rewarding experience for Otis and I. It felt really good to do something that benefits these beautiful creatures.
