The San Marcos Police Department located San Marcos missing resident, 25-year-old Jonathan Russell last Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m.
SMPD was able to locate Russell with the help of the public. Russell was believed to be endangered, but was found in Austin unharmed.
According to SMPD Commander Kelly Earnest, outreach through social and local media helped Russell’s friends spot him in Austin.
“Once it went out to social media, a couple of his friends called in and said they had seen him in Austin, so one of my detectives went to Austin and actually found him,” said Earnest.
Russell was reported missing by his family and friends after he did not show up for work at the La Quinta Inn hotel for several days.
He was last seen Thursday riding his bicycle on the 1600 block of IH-35 and with his cell phone off, no weather appropriate outfit, no current residence, and his bicycle as his only means of transportation, police and family members became concerned for Russell’s safety.
Thanks to the help of the public and the media the young man was not hurt and in need of no medical assistance. SMPD gives all the credit to the public for helping to find this young man safe and sound.
Earnest would like to remind the public that in order to report a person missing you would have to call the police department and file a missing persons report.
