7. Boston Terrier
Boston Terrriers are small, quiet, and polite, perfect for the apartment dweller. Since they are small, they don’t need a huge backyard to play; a walk around a few blocks will suffice. I have a friend who owns three of these adorable pups, and she taught them to ring a bell by the front door when they needed to go outside. You can add genius to that list of characteristics!

6. Dachshund 
Dachshunds don’t require a ton of exercise and adapt well to any lifestyle. However, this breed is known for it’s bark so if you are a woman living alone, I recommend this breed for a low maintenance pal that has your back.

5. Greyhound
Although they are seen as racing dogs, the Greyhound is a very calm breed. They don’t need a huge backyard to run around in, they would rather hang out with you. Another plus: their short hair doesn’t shed! So your apartment won’t be filled with dog hair.

4. Pug
The pug is small, sweet, and gets along with other people and animals very well. This breed is ideal if you have multiple pets/roommates. They don’t need much exercise, for they would rather sleep all day. They require a little more grooming than other dogs, but who can resist that curly tail?

3. English Bulldog
If you are more of the ‘couch-potato’ type, this breed is for you. English Bulldogs are extremely lazy. Grooming requirements are little to none, and they are also very patient. So if you have any younger siblings or young children, rest assured this dog will be gentle.

Want a small dog without the bark? This is the breed for you. They are snuggly, quiet, affectionate, and don’t require a lot of grooming. Since they don’t shed, this breed is perfect for allergy sufferers. They are quite the playful breed, so games with dog treats and walks around the block are ideal.

These dogs are incredibly smart, easygoing, and loyal. If you want a dog that will follow you anywhere – the store to Purgatory Creek to camping along the river – this is the dog for you. They don’t like to be separated from their owners for long periods of time, but they are very quiet and get along with others well.
