Over the weekend, German newspaper Bild released a timeline of Germanwings Flight 9525 before its crash where authorities suspect Co-Pilot Andreas Lubitz downed the plane. Prior to the flight, [Lubitz] was considered suicidal and underwent psychotherapy, though there is no evidence indicating any physical medical illness. However, the sounds recorded from one of the “black boxes” firms a theory by investigators that the co-pilot locked the captain out of the cockpit and then crashed the plane thirteen minutes later into the French Alps. Capt. Patrick Sondenheimer told co-pilot Lubitz that he didn’t manage to go to the bathroom before takeoff and Lubitz told him to go at anytime. While Sondenheimer was in the bathroom, it is believed Lubitz locked the pilot out of the cockpit before descending the plane. French authorities believe Lubitz is responsible for the death of the 150 people on board but there is still investigation as to why.

After years of effort, San Marcos is set to finally become a “quiet zone” for train traffic. This means bags will be removed from the horns and drivers will see warning signs saying the trains will not blare their horns before crossing. Instead, the city is installing guards across the roads at one intersection, meaning that drivers would have to crash through a barrier to cross the tracks instead of driving around. All other intersections will have one crossing guard on either side of the tracks and a concrete median to stop cars from driving around. The Federal Railroad Administration will need to verify the city’s safety enhancements before the quiet zones can take effect but San Marcos officials said that their target date is May 21st.
