On a Thursday night in San Marcos, Texas, the Bobcats won in thrilling fashion, beating the Baylor Bears on a walk-off homerun by Granger Studdard in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Bobcats needed one extra inning before Studdard lifted a solo homerun to left field. Texas State ended up winning the game 9-8, as Studdard led the way with two homeruns and four RBI’s. Studdard kept the Bobcats in the game as he launched a homerun over center field in the eighth inning, bringing the bobcats within one run of the Baylor bears. Down one run heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Bobcats looked to be down for the count until freshman Derek Schieble launched a solo homerun to tie the game.
One inning later. Granger Studdard crushed a 1-1 pitch over left field to walk-off on the Bears. On the other side of the ball, starter Lucas Humpal went 6 and 2/3 allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6.
Humpal received a no decision on the night, as Redshirt sophomore Joe Powell picked up the win, going 2 and 1/3, and made quick work of the Baylor Bear hitters. Powell came in and didn’t allow a run in the final 2 innings of the game. Ultimately the bobcat bats were the real winners of the night, as a team the Bobcats had 15 hits, 9 rbis, and 6 walks. It was a much-needed win for the bobcats, as they will head to Waco for the final two games of the series.
