It has taken nearly seven years, but the Jodi Arias murder case ends today as Arizona’s Superior Court judge decided to sentence Arias to life in prison. According to USA Today, Arias was sentenced for the gruesome murder of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, in 2008. 34-year-old Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder in May of 2013. Alexander was found dead in the shower of his Arizona home in 2008. He had been shot in the head and nearly stabbed 30 times with a slit throat. The jury that convicted her found the murder was especially cruel, making Arias eligible for the death penalty. However, that same jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision on whether she should live or die. A second-trial was seated last year to consider the life-or-death sentence and ended in a deadlock as well. Today’s ruling ended one of the more dramatic and notorious murder trials in recent history. -Eryka Villarreal
