2015-03-29 13.40.44-1The Texas State Baseball team fell behind 9-0 after three and a half innings against the 1-35 rivals UTSA Roadrunners. The team battled back offensively to score five runs in the fourth inning and made it a one run game heading into the eighth inning. The Bobcats gave up a run in the eighth and couldn’t answer. UTSA won 10-8 as Texas State falls to 17-18-1 overall and lost the season series to UTSA 2 games to 1. Texas State assistant coach Jeremy Fikac shared his thoughts on the difficult loss.

“When you dig yourself in a 9-0 lead it’s hard to come back. Especially with a team that can continue to score like UTSA. They swing the bats well. I think we were inconsistent, Cory was inconsistent command wise.  We made some elevated misses. It’s probably where they scored the nine runs. I thought we relieved okay today. This team (Texas State) continued to play baseball. We continued to play hard. We continued to compete in the box, on defense, and on the mound. We got back in the game. It was almost like a game of runs and we exhausted our self to a point and they scored the one run on the safety squeeze. The nine runs was too much to overcome. I’m disappointed that we didn’t start better than that. I was proud of the competitiveness our guys showed in that one inning, getting the two outs, getting the two strikes and continuing to compete and battle. It got us back in the baseball game.” Fikac said.

Texas State will next host Sun Belt Conference rivals UL Lafayette for a weekend series starting at 6 p.m. Friday. Saturday’s first pitch will be at 3 p.m. and Sunday the Bobcats will start at 1 p.m. You can listen to all Baseball games here on KTSW 89.9.
