Lets take a look at the quarterbacks in the draft. Its one of the weaker classes as of late but maybe you can find that Tom Brady in the 6th round.

  1. Jameis Winston (Florida State): Winston is the heavy favorite to be the first overall pick by Tampa Bay, but off-the-field issues have teams second guessing if he’s worth the top pick. Winston awed scouts and GMs at the combine with his great accuracy, touch and strength. Winston silenced all that wondered about his arm strength and rumored shoulder problems. People wonder if he could be the next JaMarcus Russell, but with anybody drafting number 1 overall besides the Raiders, Winston will be the 1st pick in the 2015 draft.
  2. Marcus Mariota (Oregon): There is little doubt that Mariota won’t be the 2nd pick, but to who? Mariota has the arm, size and great mobility that he uses to create plays with his feet and arm. Mariota’s knock is that he looked to run first sometimes and out “athlete” the other team since sometimes he was the best athlete on the field. He won’t be able to do that in the NFL and will have to trust his arm more and fire into tight windows that he wasn’t very comfortable with in college. There is no worry about Mariota off-the-field, everyone raves about him as being a great leader and his work ethic.
  3. Garret Grayson (Colorado State): Grayson was a sleeper entering the season, but played his way on to teams radars by completing 65% of his passes and throwing for over 4,000 yards, 32 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Grayson can make all the throws, but needs to be more consistent. Mariota was the only other quarterback in the nation with a higher efficiency rating last season. Grayson should be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd
  4. Brett Hundley (UCLA): Hundely is physically talented with tons of upside, but inconsistent. Hundley threw for over 3,000 yards and 22 touchdowns while completing 69% of his passes, but some still feel as if he’s overrated. Not playing in the Senior Bowl made a bad impression on some people, but he is said to have interviewed well at the combine. A knock on Hundley is that he takes a lot of sacks. Hundley took 10 sacks against Utah last season and over the past three seasons has been sacked more than 100 times. Hundley is expected to go in the 2nd to 4th round range, but I think he will be selected later in that window.
  5. Bryce Petty (Baylor): Petty is looking to change the trend of quarterbacks to come out of the pass happy Art Briles offensive scheme. Petty threw for almost 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns and rushing for six more. Petty will have to become comfortable with taking snaps under center and become more of a pocket passer. Petty didn’t really impress the way teams were looking for at the Senior Bowl and has a big learning curve ahead of him. Petty is projected to go between the 4th and 6th round, but I could easily see him going undrafted as he reminds me too much of Brandon Weeden.
  6. Sean Mannion (Oregon State): Mannion may have played in the most pro style offense out of the QBs so far. A bad offensive line and losing Brandin Cooks to the NFL, Mannion didn’t have near the season in 2014 that he did in 2013 when he threw for 4,662 yards and 37 touchdowns. He is the prototypical pocket pass and doesn’t like to get moved off his spot. Mannion is project to go in the 4th through 6th rounds, but I could see him go before Hundley and Petty. I think he will go early in that window maybe even going as early as the 3rd
