If you have any inkling of style then you should already know why and where style phenoms like Gigi Hadid, Pharrell and Alexander Wang were collected this past weekend. The Council of Fashion Designers of America hosted their Awards show on June 1st at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City for their annual event that recognizes the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.
Nominations for each award category are submitted by The CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, an invitation only network comprised of top fashion retailers, journalists, stylists, influencers and the 450+ member designers of the CFDA. The nominees, as well as recipients of the honorary awards are ratified by the CFDA Board of Directors. The awards include:
Womenswear Designer of The Year
Menswear Designer of The Year
Accessories Designer of The Year
Swarovski Award for Womenswear
Swarovski Award for Menswear
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design
Geoffry Beene Lifetime Achievement of The Year
International Award
The Founder’s Award In Honor of Eleanor Lambert
The Media Award In Honor of Eugiana Shepard
Fashion Icon Award
Many of the winners were released a day prior to the event like the Olsen twins for “Womenswear Designer of The Year” and Pharrell as “Fashion Icon Award.” The official awards and red carpet segments were released the following days, but for some these moments could only be greatly captured front row as many non-celebrity attendees were granted access to the show festivities.
