In preparation for the incoming tropical storm system expected to hit the Texas coast this evening, Governor Greg Abbott has announced the elevated activation of the Texas State operations center. Abbott has approved the rapid deployment of state resources as needed during the significant weather event. Texans are advised to prepare for severe weather, including possible flash flooding, hail and damaging winds.

Polish defense minister Tomasz Siemoniak says the US will soon store heavy weapons including tanks and infantry fighting vehicles in Poland. The US has confirmed they will send an armored brigade of up to 250 vehicles to Germany to support its NATO allies. This will be the first US armor on ex-communist territory since the Cold war ended. Siemoniak says this is another step toward building a greater US presence in Poland and the region.

Jeb Bush declared today he is running for president, saying “America deserves better.” If he wins the campaign, the Bush family will become the only family in American history to have three relatives to take the Oval Office. In a CNN poll, 56 percent of respondents said Jeb’s connection to the two former Bush presidents makes them less likely to support his campaign.

Flash flood watch remains in effect through Thursday morning for 19 counties in South Central Texas including Hays and Travis. Widespread heavy rainfall of 2 to 6 inches is possible along and east of US 281 and localized amounts up to 8 inches possible along the US 77 corridor.
