For residents of Hays County who plan on spending their summer in #SMTX, Summer in the Park is back! This marks the 29th year of the annual concert series.
Every summer, bands of various genres come out to Plaza Park on Thursday nights and perform for residents seated in
their lawn chairs or up and dancing in the grass. It started on the first Thursday of June and will continue through the second Thursday of August.
The President of the Performing Arts Association that puts on the event every year, Rick Bowen said that they aim to shed light on some of the local talent.
“Our purpose is to highlight local area talent and provide free concerts for the area residents through June, July and the first two weeks of August,” Bowen said.
They’re careful in choosing the bands that play at Summer in the Park. Bowen said that part of the reason people come out is because it’s an event for the whole family.
“This is a very family-friendly event in which all generations can participate and it’s just wonderful to see from grandparents to little-bitty infants enjoying the music.”
Derailers kicked off the event on the 4th and Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros performed on the 11th. Others bands set to take the stage this summer include Soul Track Mind, US Army Stage Band and Willow Creek Project. For more information, you can visit sanmarcossummer.com.
