The City of San Marcos will host “Passport to San Marcos” welcoming Texas State University students downtown from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, August 21st at the square.
The festivities will be a “block-party” style event featuring a live DJ, inflatable games and interactive entertainment to give students a “chance to relax” before the fall semester begins.
Samples from downtown eateries will also be provided in a food court on the square, giving students a “taste of downtown.”
“Our goal is to familiarize Texas State University students with all there is to offer in our downtown district,” said Samantha Armbruster, Main Street Program Manager. “By hosting this event, we hope to both welcome students to the city of San Marcos, as well as encourage them to shop with our local businesses.”
The event will also have an interactive scavenger hunt where people can “check-in” to downtown business by scanning a QR code with their phones. Each scan enters the participant into a drawing to win prizes, such as a Yeti cooler, surface tablet and gift certificates to downtown business totaling $2,000. This will give students an opportunity to discover downtown and support local businesses.
The scavenger hunt will be from 3 p.m. on August 21 to midnight on Sunday, August 23rd. Winners will be announced on Monday, August 24th.
Event updates can be found through the official hashtag “#PassportSMTX.” The event is open to the public.
