Mittie Miller is a 61-year-old San Marcos native who works as Traci Lynn’s jewelry consultant. Miller talked about how jewelry helps to make women feel beautiful and how her hometown has grown for the better.

How long have you been in San Marcos?
Oh my gosh, a very long time. I graduated from (San Marcos High School). My parents moved here back in ‘65 because of the Gary Job Corps Center so I’ve been here since then.
What are some of your favorite things to do since you grew up in San Marcos?
In San Marcos, I love the river. I’m an outdoors person so back in the D-A-Y, we actually used to swim in the San Marcos River. That was our only swimming facility. I like the river and tubing. Then, just being around downtown. Of course, it’s changed tremendously since I’ve been here. But (I enjoy) the people, they’re fun.
Do you think that it’s good that San Marcos is growing or do you miss that small town feel?
Well, being that it’s a different time, I know it has to keep up. I do miss it but, then again it brings in more different people. So, you get to learn more about, you know, different people. With the university, it’s such a difference. Sometimes I feel like they’re taking over but, they’re not. They’re just here to do what they have to do to get their education. I graduated from San Marcos High School in 1973 so it was a lot different back then. The only thing I don’t care for is the parking downtown, that’s the only drawback. I’m not into the backing up scene.
Could you tell me about Traci Lynn jewelry?
It’s kind of like a direct selling market that’s existed since, I want to say, 1967. The owner is Dr. Traci Lynn and she got this company to help women build and become independent as far as financially. What we do is we do home parties and we do website parties. It’s all about selling jewelry, selling the bling to make you feel beautiful. So, who wants to wear dull jewelry?
So, why did you choose to be a consultant for Traci Lynn?
I’ve been in other multi-marketing from Avon to Mary Kay, but I love jewelry. I think it just really encourages ladies. I think something about jewelry just makes you feel pretty about yourself, you know, more self-confident. People say, “I can’t wear it.” But, once they put it on they see that they can. So, I love jewelry because I just like to make people happy.
Do have any memorable experiences since you’ve been a consultant?
No, not really. I mean, I’m a fun person so I try to make things very nice and fun and enjoyable. (I tell my customers) don’t feel bad if you don’t buy anything, but just make sure you try it once, you know. There’s nothing wrong with looking for a second.
