With the Yarrington overpass quickly approaching completion, San Marcans have one less thing to worry about on the interstate yet another major renovation in town is expected to start soon.
Originally a two-laned narrow bridge, The Yarrington overpass was long overdue for needed upgrades. In September, drivers will finally see the construction at exit 210 come to a wrap. TxDot spokesman Christopher Bishop said the overpass had some real issues that needed to be addressed like removing the original structure and renovating the entire intersection. Bishop said the main bridge has since been replaced with a much wider, four laned bridge as well as two turn-around lanes.
Meanwhile, the Aquarena overpass still has one more step before the bridge construction begins. Bishop says that crews are currently finishing the preliminary utility work to make way for new frontage roads.
“That will take until this fall when the actual bridge construction should begin,” Bishop said. “In the meantime, we’re not anticipating major lane closures.”
Bishop says the Aquarena project is still on schedule to be completed sometime in late 2017.
