By now you should know, unless you live in a cave with Zubat, the mobile app “Pokemon Go” is the latest and phenomenon to sweep the nation and world off its feet. Whether you are a Pokémanic like me, a youngster trainer or somewhere in between you shouldn’t have to be out catching without any tunes. Here are 10 songs to accompany you while you’re traveling across the land searching far and wide:

  1. Weezer- “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”

This is not a song, this an anthem. The second track off of the Weezer (Red Album) stops just shy of of the six minute mark and is guaranteed to make you want to be the very best like no one ever was. It is the perfect song to start your journey on and will get you started off on the right foot.

  1. MxPx- “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” Cover Song

Ok, I know everybody loves The Proclaimers, but MxPx gives this song an energetic jump start! They blend their version of skate punk with the classic song to provide you with the spark to walk 500 miles. Well, maybe not that far but maybe at least far enough to hatch that egg. I know you’re dying to know what’s inside.

  1. Beck- “Loser”

Let’s be honest with each other. Not everybody loves the new mobile app and while playing you might hear the title of this song flung at you. Just ignore it and don’t choke on the splinters and instead drown it out with maybe the coolest song to crawl out of the nineties.

  1. The White Stripes- “We’re Gonna Be Friends”

If you haven’t already noticed “Pokemon Go” has brought hordes of people walking through the square, quad, outlet mall, and just about everywhere you can imagine. This means while on your journey you are bound to run into new people and new friends. Who knows maybe you and Suzy Lee might find a Squirtle through the park and by the tree.

  1. Jeff Rosenstock- “Get Old Forever”

This song is about getting older, yet somehow still feeling like you have not grown up. Pokemon Go can sometimes feel childish and embarrassing, but remember you’re only as old as you feel. Also, you’re not gonna catch all 151 with that attitude.

  1. Modest Mouse- “March Into the Sea”

This song is dedicated to walking through Sewell Park and down the San Marcos River in search of Gyrados and only catching Magikarp.

  1. Say Anything- “A Walk Through Hell”

The ballad can represent one of two things. First off walking through the Texas heat in search of Pokemon can literally feel like a walk through hell. Second off this song is about doing whatever it takes to get to the one you love. Whether the one you love is your significant other or, more likely, an adorable Pikachu is up to you.

  1. PWR BTTM- “West Texas”

If you’re going to be a Pokemon master you’re going to need to visit new cities. This catchy indie-punk song is all about leaving one city for another. PWR BTTM is posed to be the next big thing, so you might at well jump on board already.

  1. Somos- “Streets Upon Streets”

An emo track from one of the most promising bands part of the emo scene (don’t call it a revival). Once again the title kinda says it all. You will be walking a lot, walking streets upon streets.

10.Pokémon- “PokéRAP”

Because how in the world would this not make this list. Energetic, nostalgic, fun, this song has it all. Nothing is more cringe worthy than a corporation trying to be hip and cool with the kids. Yet, somehow this song is an absolute classic. Ok, it may be a little cheesy, but the nineties were a different time. A wonderful time.
“Pokemon Go” is a fun time, but music enhances everything. Still make sure if you have headphones in, or not, to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Goodluck and catch ém all!
