Chapter 12 is a San Marcos-based independent record and production organization. Texas State students Michael Howard, Joey Chapman and Mark Harlan are the organization’s leaders. They have been recording local artist and distributing the works over the Internet to show the vast talent San Marcos has to offer. Chapter 12, to celebrate their two-year anniversary, is putting on their most ambitious event yet, with an all night music event featuring artist from all over Texas. The event will be held on October 29 at Don’s Fish Camp in Martindale. Gates are opening at 6 p.m. and will feature live music until 2 a.m., with the option of overnight camping. Along with an outstanding line-up of live music, the event is to host a costume contest with cash prizes and overnight camping.
The music line-up, is being headlined by Austin’s very own Summer Salt. The band consists of Guitarist/vocalist Matt Terry, bassist Phil Baier and Eugene Chung on the drums. The group formed the band while in high school back in 2007 but were on hiatus while attending college. In 2013 the self described “Coral Reef Rock/ Tropical Oldies” band reunited in Austin and have been gaining quite the local following. The band is influenced by bossa nova, The Beach Boys and The Shins.
Many of the bands on the line-up are from right here in San Marcos. One of those being Rusty Dusty, a band that has begun to gather quite the local San Marcos following. The group consisting of John Bowers playing drums, Patrick Ford with the lead guitar,Travis Roper playing rhythm and providing vocals, Bethany Hardie on backup vocals and Mark Harlan on the bass. The DIY Soul music has many sounds you would find in bands you find like Dr. Dog, The Growlers and My Morning Jacket.
Bogan Villa another up and coming band from San Marcos that has come onto the local music scene as of the past spring. They have made a few appearances around San Marcos such as Valentinos and Kiva. The three piece band consists of guitarist/vocalist Will Webb Wells, bassist Brandon Alvis and on the drums Matt Ewaniszyk. The band describes their music jazzadelic blues-rock with influences from Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Ted Nugent.
The Cold Tonys another act featured on the bill is the project from Michael Martinez a new resident of San Marcos. He describes his music as a mixture derived from Brazilian jazz and feel good chord resolutions you find in contemporary jazz such as Frank Sinatra, Hazel Scott and leading to modern artists such as King Krule.
Other bands being featured on the line-up include: Tamarron, The Legacy and Bingus. The members of Chapter 12 would love to see as many people as possible to come out for an excellent night of music and chill vibes. For more information to the event please contact Chapter12 on Facebook.
