Texas State women’s basketball is now 1-1 in Sun Belt conference play going into 2017.
On Thursday, the Bobcats got a big win over the visiting Coastal Carolina 83-62. In that game, the Texas State bench was the story, out scoring the Chanticleer bench 50-3.
Kaitlin Walla also had her best game of the season, shooting 6-10 from the field and 3-5 from the arch, totaling a season-high 17 points. McKinley Bostad and Toshua Leavitt both posted 14 points in the winning effort as well. Four Bobcat players scored in double-figures.
“The kids were able to do exactly what we said. Be poised, play poised and be patient,” Head Coach Zenarae Antoine said after the win.
The story was a bit different the following Saturday for this Bobcat team.
Texas State fell to Appalachian State 66-64 in a tight game. Texas State lost a six point lead with about six minutes left to go in the fourth quarter.
Turnovers led to easy buckets for the Mountaineers and the deficit became a tie at 64-64. Appalachian State was able to score the go-ahead bucket with three seconds remaining. Texas State made one last attempt from half-court, but could not complete the miracle.
Ti’Ara Pitts continued her hot play totaling 14 points on 5-10 shooting.
Texas State will be back in action next Saturday at 2 p.m. against UTA at Strahan Coliseum. That game will be available to listen to on KTSW 89.9.
