The Sun Belt Conference released the football scheduled for the 2017 season today, including the opponents for the Bobcats.
The Texas State football team will head into next year after a disappointing 2016 campaign in which the Bobcats went 2-10 on the season and 0-8 in the Sun Belt.
(Week One vs. HBU) The Bobcats take on Houston Baptist for the first time in both programs history. This could potentially become an instate rivalry for the Bobcats and Huskies, since Houston is within reasonable traveling distance of San Marcos for students and fans.
(Week Four vs. UTSA) The good ol’ “I-35 Rivalry” will be renewed on the gridiron after the Bobcats and Roadrunners split to different conferences in 2013. The last time these two teams met, the Roadrunners stole a victory against the Bobcats 38-31 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. This time the game will be held at Bobcat Stadium in front of the Texas State home crowd, expect maximum capacity for this rivalry reborn.
(Week Five @ Wyoming) Texas State will be facing one of the 2018 National Football League (NFL) draft top quarterback prospects when they head to Laramie, WY to face the Cowboys. Wyoming quarterback, Josh Allen, was projected to go in the top two rounds of this year’s NFL Draft, but decided to go back to school and gain more experience in the collegiate ranks. The Bobcats will have a tall task when facing against Allen and the Cowboys, but look for this to be a game where the Bobcats to display what kind of team they are against a NFL-caliber quarterback.
Texas State spring football season will begin March 22, 2017 and the annual Maroon and Gold Spring Game will be April 15, 2017.
