SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Bobcats were able to knock off the Baylor Bears Tuesday night in a 9-6 game in which the result was closer than the game appeared.

The win also notched the 200th win for head coach Steven Trout. Trout has been with Texas State since 2016, and took over head coaching duties in 2020 in place of Ty Harrington.

Trout led the Bobcats to a program record 47 wins in 2022. The Bobcats were also Sun Belt Conference regular season champions while going 26-4 against conference opponents. The Bobcats also made an appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament that year.

Trout was asked about notching his 200th career victory, especially being able to do it with one program.

“I always love to do things like this at home in front of the home crowd against a really good opponent. To me it’s all about the players and the coaches. I get the win, but those guys put the time and effort in and make it happen. So this goes back to the 2020 team all the way ‘till now. [I’m] really proud, and ready to go get 201.”

The Bobcat offense started off hot, jumping out to a 5-1 lead by the fifth inning thanks to home runs from Bennett Fryman, Rashawn Galloway, and Jaquae Stewart.

Galloway would’ve had two home runs on the night, but had one robbed from him in the first inning by Baylor’s Dylan Perez, Galloway’s high school teammate.

When asked about the robbed home run, Galloway gave praise to his former teammate.

“The play he made out in left, I’ve got to give all the credit. It was a really cool moment because that was one of my high school teammates. It was a fun moment to see him make that play and he’s phenomenal out there only being a Freshman this year,” said Galloway.

Galloway was also able to add another double onto his program record this season, notching his 23rd double of the season. He also added two RBI’s on that big hit as well.

Chase Mora made his return to the lineup Tuesday as well after a couple games off against South Alabama, going 2-3 with two doubles, two RBI’s, and a walk.

Titan Targac picked up his second win of the season, but only pitched two innings as Texas State was trying to limit his usage so he could possibly start this weekend against Arkansas State.

The Bobcats used nine different pitchers Tuesday night, as that has seemed to become the routine over the last few mid week games.

The Bobcats next game is Friday, May 8, their final road series this season as they take on Arkansas State in Jonesboro.

The Bobcats are trying to do better against conference opponents, losing ten of their last twelve conference games.
