My Idea of a Perfect Date

Dinner and a movie is great, but been there done that. I have to say, you must have a big personality or some really great chemistry for a second date after that.  My experience with dinner dates is that it’s either just awkward because you don’t have much to talk about or it’s just basic conversations you could’ve texted about. As for movies, there’s no talking at all. Maybe during the trailers, but movie dates aren’t the best to get to know each other either.

Go see a comedian with some raunchy jokes. Yeah, it might be uncomfortable to laugh at some things in front of each other but you’ll learn about what you both find funny. Photo courtesy of Allison Johnson.

I once came across an article saying to go on a date somewhere where you and your date are both outside of your comfort zone. It gives you a chance to really see what your personalities are like. It gave examples like going to a monster truck show together and random sports you could play together. I loved the idea. I just know if someone took me to any kind of show where I’m viewing any kind of action you’re going to see the real me. I won’t be sitting pretty with my ankles crossed telling you about my major, I’ll be really into the atmosphere of the place, probably dropping f-bombs. But you know what? I’ll look beautiful doing it, and you might want to take me out again.

Did you think I was playing? I cried so hard! Brandon Flowers is my favorite frontman of all my favorite bands. Photo courtesy of Allison Johnson.

Something else I would enjoy is a concert. Going to a concert with someone to see a band you both enjoy would be a fun experience. Yeah, you could sit over dinner and talk about how The Killers’ second album gave you life in middle school, or how you saw The Black Keys years ago, but why not experience it together? I feel like you could really get to know someone watching them in their zone at a concert or music festival. I know I don’t hold back. I cried watching Brandon Flowers at ACL in 2015, then I went back to watching Run the Jewels 30 minutes later.

Do you think Sam Witwicky would’ve gone out with Mikaela Barnes in Transformers if he would’ve took her to dinner? No. They discovered an alien race together and saved the world. Now I’m not saying that’s what you need to do, but strive to be adventurous and spontaneous next time you ask someone on a date. Don’t you want them to look back and know they’re happy they got in your car? Be an amazing date to someone. Impress them. Show them you know how to have fun while looking hot at the same time!
