At times, it seems like people forget about the importance of being kind. It’s true what people say, acts of kindness can make someone’s day. But maybe you don’t know how to go about being kind to someone. It is a lot easier than people make it out to be and it never hurts to practice. So here are some ideas for acts of kindness that you can carry out:

  • Leave a Nice Waiter a Generous Tip

Go ahead and admit it, there have been times when you have skipped out on leaving a decent tip after eating at a restaurant. While it has been said that a customer should leave a tip that is at least 15 percent of the bill, most of us either leave something less than that or nothing at all. If you have a great experience with a waiter and your expenses allow it, you could consider showing your gratitude by increasing their tip to a higher percent. Your waiter will most likely appreciate this more than you know, especially since many servers make most of their money from the tips they receive. This could be your way of telling a waiter that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.

  • Give Away Stuff You Don’t Use

We all probably have things laying around that we don’t necessarily use or need. I’m pretty sure you have contemplated getting rid of some of this stuff. While you could always sell it, there’s no harm in giving things away for free. Like they say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. This is where you could help someone who is in need or not as fortunate to purchase the items you no longer want. Find a needy neighbor or go to a local shelter and donate. By giving away freely, you’ll feel a sense of joy that you can’t necessarily get from any other experience. In the end, this act of kindness is beneficial for both parties involved.

  • Allow Someone To Have Your Place Out In Public

Say you’re on the bus, waiting in line, or whatever the case may be. There might be someone who could use a seat or spot more than you. As much as you might dread giving up your place, I’m sure someone would really find it polite and considerate if you did. The “first come, first serve” method doesn’t always have to be your mindset. This act could set you apart from many individuals because not too many people are willing to make the attempt. Just know that someone could be warmed by this simple gesture.

  • Tell Someone They Are Appreciated

There are different ways for you to tell someone you appreciate their presence. Something like an I love you.” or “You’re the best.” mean much more than we give them credit for. Verbal affirmation that proclaims how much you care about someone can be powerful. Not only can this act help you strengthen personal relationships, it can also be reassurance to someone that they are doing the right things in life. Sometimes all someone needs is a little praise to keep them going. Enhancing a life with your kind words makes a huge impact in the long run.

While these are only a few ideas to get you started, you can show kindness in many other ways. Once you start taking the initiative to bring more positivity into the world, you will start to perform acts of kindness more randomly. You will be performing them like they are second nature, all while contributing to making the world a better place.
