Back in 2013, I decided to check out a podcast that was co-hosted by one of my favorite YouTube personalities, Kid Fury. After just five minutes of listening to The Read, I was struck with this idea of starting my own podcast. At the time, I was only 16 and did not really have anything to talk about that I felt people would be interested in. I just knew that one day I was going to start my own podcast and it was going to be great. Fast forward four years later, and my idea has become a reality.

Mad Genre, which is the brainchild of myself and one of my highschool buddies, is something we have dubbed as “the podcast for the generation”. As two unique individuals living through our twenties, we wanted to create a platform that attracted a diverse audience. Every episode is a look into the different aspects of a young adult’s life from the young adult’s perspective. Each week we indulge in stimulating, entertaining conversation, so there should be something for anyone to enjoy.

Mad Genre breaks down into three segments. First, we have “What Are We?” As we live through the hookup culture, sometimes we just need some guidance on how to manage “playing the field” or discuss how we feel when it comes to relationships and partners. This is exactly the type of conversation that takes place during this segment and it just so happens to be spearheaded by yours truly. Secondly, we jump into “Obey Your Hustle”. This segment is all about inspiring people to stick to their passions and advising them on how to hustle your way through college or a career. Lastly, there is “In This Life” where we discuss pop culture and give our opinions on all things current and newsworthy.

Each host, including myself, brings a sense of variety to the table. I am the more no-nonsense individual who just says what I feel, but makes it sensible. My good friend, Mr. Mardio Lattimore, brings in a very suave, insightful persona that easily makes him relatable. We try to bring on guest hosts regularly, ones that bring in more flavor and represent all the different variety you can find throughout the world. With all of us together, it makes for nothing but great laughs and tons of wisdom spread.

Starting up a podcast like this is not always easy. A lot of it has been trying to run off the support of others in order to keep the motivation going. Mardio and I have been giving our all into providing a program that people want to continuously listen to. All we ask is that people give us a shot by checking out some of our episodes on SoundCloud, iTunes, Google Play or Stitcher. To keep updated with our crew and any of our upcoming endeavors, please follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Hope you become part of the #WeAreMadGenre family!
