Texas State outlasts the Eagles of Georgia Southern 1-0 to win their Sun Belt Conference home opener. The only goal of the night came off of the foot of Sydney Kammer who netted her second goal of the season in the eighth minute of the match. Alyssa Phelan assisted on the goal with a nice header, and the Bobcats never looked back. Another thing to note was the chippy play from Genesis Turman and Georgia Southern player Claire Amici. Turman was awarded a yellow card in the 31st minute of this contest, but that did not stop this one from being super physical. Texas State ended the match with 14 shots and four of them made their way to the goal. There were two shots by Forward Kaylee Davis that just missed the net. The Eagles ended the match with 11 total shots, and three of them on goal. Heather Martin pitched a shutout with three total saves. Lauren Karinshak (goalkeeper for the Eagles) had three saves as well, but she let one slip past her resulting in the Bobcats only goal of the night. The game was chippy throughout as both team amounted nine fouls each. The Eagles had two corner kick opportunities while the Bobcats had five. Texas State moves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Bobcats continue conference play as they head to Jonesboro to take on Arkansas State this Sunday at 1 p.m.! Check into KTSW 89.9 for further updates.
