Upcoming changes in campus bus routes and construction were announced during the Spring Student Government Roundtable meeting.
Campus transportation coordinator Stephanie Daniels said Holland bus route 28, which stretches all the way to Hillside ranch apartments, will remain the same. Bus 24, which goes from the quad bus loop to Hughson Heights will reroute to Bishop square now that that section has opened up. Daniels said they will definitely be keeping bus 28 on the route it is currently on due to the large amount of students in that area.
Transportation services may put a second stop for bus 28 by Windmill apartments on Chestnut street, but Daniels says it depends on the owner of the apartment complex.
Sen. Christian Sears said Capstone Cottages has rebranded to Cottages of San Marcos but the sign still says Capstone Cottages. Daniels said they will be getting them a new renamed sign for the complex.
Sears also asked about construction on campus. He said that he was confused why during spring break, winter break and the summer construction seemed to stop and take a break as well. He said that would be the best time to have construction since there aren’t as many students around. Daniels said a lot of times due to bad weather conditions during the breaks, progress on construction is inhibited. As for on campus construction it is funded through the school and they do work through the breaks
She said the problems at least for the city is the weather, “You can only pour asphalt at certain times.” But for more questions in regards to that she said it would be a something for facilities.
However, Daniels said the work on Sessom drive will be ready by summer, and the bridge on Aquarina is expected to be finished by fall.
Sen. Shania Waugh said parking is terrible and asked Daniels if there will be any new parking garages built anywhere.
“Parking is easy, parking where you want is hard,” Daniels said.
Right now she said there are three possible sites for more parking that will be established, but it could take up to five years. For now, Daniels said Transportation services are working on improving the connections to some of the bigger parking lots they already have that don’t ever fill up.
