Once again, Fort Worth is expressing its musical creativity by hosting Fortress Fest. This annual two-day festival contains a variety of music genres and music artists. Any concert lovers will find themselves in paradise this April at Fortress Festival.
This years headliners are Father John Misty and Courtney Barnett. Misty’s most recent album release Pure Comedy has made a huge commotion in the entertainment industry. Misty has performed on multiple shows, two of which include Saturday Night Live and Austin City Limits. Barnett has one of the most distinct voices in indie rock. She is an award winning artist and even has been nominated for a Grammy. Rolling Stone has actually praised her as “one of the sharpest, most original songwriters around-at any level, in any genre.” With performances from both Misty and Barnett, Fortress Festival will definitely deliver.
Supporting the headliners are bands who put a strong emphasis on female led groups: Tune Yards, Rapsody, Waxahatchee, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Jay Som and Bedouine. This is already a strong supporting lineup, but Fortress Festival is already even more impressive since they will have some 90’s hip-hop legends performing as well: RZA, De La Soul and Shabazz Palaces. Chicano Batman, Lee Fields & The Expressions and Stone Mecca will also be playing which will boost the amount of soul and funk groups at this years festival.
I recommend anyone planning on going to the festival to reserve their hotel rooms as soon as possible. Fortress Festival attracted more than 9,000 people from 33 different states during last year. This festival is happening on the 28th and 29th of April, so make sure to buy your tickets!
