Lounging around by the pool on a hot summer day is where you can find most Americans celebrating Independence Day. You can also find others grilling in their backyard before heading out to light some fireworks with friends and family. There’s a variety of ways to celebrate this patriotic holiday, so luckily that gives you a lot of activities to choose from. This holiday is a great way to gather around with friends, family and the community. However, for those like myself that enjoy being festive around the holidays and are not sure how to celebrate, here are a some of activities you could try.

Indoor Activities

Holidays such as the Fourth of July can feel stressful. You could be attending a party with people who you may not know, or even planning one. However, for those that are not too fond of awkward conversations or would rather spend your time indoors, here are some activities that you can do. Firstly, you can have a patriotic movie night. A couple of good movies you can watch are Independence Day, Top Gun, Forrest Gump, Armageddon, National Treasure, or Saving Private Ryan. Another alternative for those sports fans out there is to catch up on some baseball. Secondly, you can never go wrong with playing games like Cards Against Humanity with a couple of friends. Lastly, you can end your day by having an indoor picnic while window watching the fireworks in the sky.

Outdoor Activities:

In addition, for those that are wanting to spend some time in the sun, a perfect activity for you could be a traditional barbecue by a pool, river or beach with friends and family. However, if you’re not wanting to travel, some fun local activities can include: floating the river, kayaking in Austin, or traveling up to Fredericksburg, Texas, to hike Enchanted

Rock. You can always cruise down to the beaches either in Corpus Christi, Port Aransas or South Padre Island. If you decide to go to South Padre Island there’s a smaller town called Port Isabel where you can visit gift shops and get to view the city at the top of the lighthouse. These are all great ways to relax and enjoy the holiday. Lastly, if you are planning on staying in town you can spend some time at Summerfest, located at San Marcos Plaza Park, where there’s live music, along with a parade, and a firework show in the evening.

After all, there’s no wrong way to celebrate this patriotic holiday. So, if you decide to do one of these activities, have fun with it. Also, don’t be afraid to be creative and alter these ideas. Hope you all have a safe, yet awesome Fourth of July!
