Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar oversees the world’s 10th largest economy and serves as the state’s chief tax collector and treasurer. Hegar’s office is also in charge of monitoring the endangered species within the state. Hegar said that there is a balance when it comes to providing for the Texas economy and protecting endangered species.

In his time as Comptroller, Hegar founded the state’s Transparency Stars Program. Hegar said that the program is designed to incentivize local governments to make their data more readily available. Hegar won re-election in the 2018 election and will remain in office until at least 2022.
